Trauma Therapy Mesa, AZ
You survived it. Now let's help your nervous system know that.
Trauma isn't just about what happened to you. It's about how your nervous system learned to respond to a world that felt unsafe. PTSD, complex PTSD, and the lasting effects of childhood trauma can show up as hypervigilance, dissociation, intrusive memories, difficulty trusting, or a constant low-grade sense that something is wrong even when nothing overtly is.
Healing from trauma doesn't require you to relive every detail. It requires creating enough safety that your nervous system can finally finish what it started when survival mode kicked in.
How Trauma Therapy Works Here
My approach to trauma is integrative, drawing primarily from IFS (Internal Family Systems) and EMDR, supported by somatic and attachment-based techniques. We always start by building safety and coping resources before any deeper processing. Your pace, always.
PTSD vs. Complex PTSD (CPTSD)
PTSD typically follows a specific traumatic event: an accident, assault, or acute loss. Complex PTSD (CPTSD) develops from prolonged, repeated trauma, often in childhood, in relationships, or in environments you couldn't escape. It often presents differently: chronic shame, difficulty with relationships, emotional dysregulation, and a pervasive sense of being fundamentally different or broken.
Both are treatable. Both deserve care. And neither means there is something permanently wrong with you.
What to Expect
We begin by getting to know your system: what helps, what triggers, what your nervous system needs to feel safe enough to do this work. We build coping and stabilization skills. Then, when you're ready, we move into processing, whether through IFS parts work, EMDR, or a combination of both. The timeline is yours.
The Methods
Evidence-based
trauma treatment that works
IFS and EMDR are among the most extensively researched trauma treatments available. I use them together and separately depending on what your system needs.
- IFS
Internal Family Systems for Trauma
IFS understands trauma responses as protective parts, parts that developed to keep you safe. The numbing, the hypervigilance, the fawning: they were adaptive. In IFS trauma work, we approach these parts with curiosity rather than trying to eliminate them, which creates the safety needed for deeper healing without retraumatization.
- EMDR
EMDR for PTSD & Complex Trauma
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or tones) to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories. The goal isn't to forget what happened. It's to reduce its emotional intensity so the memory no longer hijacks your present. EMDR is highly effective for both single-incident trauma and complex trauma.
- Somatic
Somatic & Body-Based Approaches
Trauma is stored in the body, in tension patterns, chronic pain, breath-holding, freeze responses. Somatic work helps the body complete the survival responses it never finished, which is often what creates lasting relief after trauma.
